How to populate the shipping parameters for an item that ships on multiple pallets or has more than one freight class.
In all e-commerce platforms that Eniture Technology enables for LTL freight, there is a single set of settings to record the weight and freight class for the SKU. If the product has variants, each variant will have its own set of shipping parameters, but still the fact remains... There is only one set of fields to record them. What do you do if the SKU is comprised of multiple handling units (e.g. pallets) or has more than one commodity?
Pallet Packing Feature
All of Eniture Technology's LTL freight quoting products have access to the "Pallet Packing" feature. This feature allows the merchant to specify that the SKU ships as multiple handling units, allows the merchant to specify each one, and for each one to specify the weight and freight class for each one. Use of this feature is straight forward. Consult the product's user's guide for instructions on how to use it. However, using this feature comes at an additional cost that may not be necessary, depending on the requirements.
Using a Blended Freight Class
There are a number of excellent freight class calculators available online. You can use one of them to determine the blended freight class for the SKU. One of the best freight class calculators for this purpose is the one from Daylight Transport which is available with this link.
Enter the details for the SKU and then transfer the results to the quoting app. For the SKU/Variant, enter the total weight and what Daylight Transport says is the blended freight class. The shipping quotes you receive as a result should be accurate provided that your inputs were.
