Cohabiting NMFC and Dimensional Tariffs

How WooCommerce merchants can use more than one LTL freight quote plugin when they use different types of tariffs.

Use case

An e-commerce website has more than one of Eniture Technology's LTL Freight Quotes plugins installed. The installed plugins are for different LTL freight providers. One (or more) of the LTL freight providers assigned a "dimensionally rated tariff" to the account. The others assigned a traditional NMFC tariff to the account. How do you accomplish having both types of pricing tariffs work simultaneously?

Dimensionally Rated Tariffs

These types of pricing tariffs require that the overall handling unit dimensions be provided to obtain rate estimates. To satisfy the requirement, Eniture Technology's Pallet Packaging add-on plugin must be installed. Once configured, the Pallet Packing plugin will identify a packaging solution and it will be included in the rate request sent to the carriers.

NMFC Rated Tariffs

These pricing tariffs require the freight class for each commodity included in the shipment. The Pallet Packing add-on plugin is not required. If the rate request uses the Pallet Packing plugin's packaging solution, the LTL freight provider may return an error or inaccurate rate estimates.

If the Pallet Packing plugin is enabled, then the plugins for the carriers using a traditional NMFC tariff must opt out of using its packaging solution. To opt out, open the plugin settings for the LTL freight provider with the traditional NMFC tariff, and click on Pallets in the plugin's navigation menu. (WooCommerce > Settings > Freight provider's tab > Pallets)

Enable the checkbox for Suspend use for only this plugin.

 

Repeat this for each LTL freight provider that utilizes a traditional NMFC tariff. Afterward, the Pallet Packing plugin's packaging solution will be sent only to LTL freight providers that have assigned a dimensional tariff to your account.
