BigCommerce: How to avoid cached results

How BigCommerce merchants can make sure shipping quotes aren't coming from cache memory

BigCommerce is very stubborn when it comes to caching previous results. It's common for BigCommerce merchants to conclude that the changes made to the settings in the Real-time Shipping Quotes app aren't having an impact on what is seen on their next visit to the checkout page.

Simply refreshing the page won't do. What BigCommerce and/or the browser sees is the same old thing seen before. Rather than using resources to refresh the results, the previous result is retrieved and displayed.

To avoid seeing cached results, employ one of these two options:

Option 1: Don't use the same information during checkout

Cached results will be displayed if BigCommerce or your browser thinks it has seen it before. Add different products to the cart or change the address. A simple method we use when performing iterative testing is to add or change the address 2 field information (Apartment/Suite/Building), even if that information is irrelevant for the street address.

If the street address you're using is "123 Main Street", on your next visit, add "Suite A" to the second street address field.

Change the Apartment/Suite/Building on each visit afterward (e.g. Suite B, Suite C, Suite D, etc.) and that should be sufficient to force a real refresh of the results.

Option 2: Clear the browsers cache

This option is more invasive because it results in the loss of some or all of your browsing history. However, it can be the preferred method if you want to make sure you aren't retrieving a cached page. How to clear the cache varies by browser.
